Susanne Lundeng
is one of Norway's most highly regarded folk musicians. She has her musical roots in the folk music of Northern Norway and has a distinctive sound as a fiddler, composer, singer, and musical freethinker.
She was awarded a Spellemannspris (Norwegian Grammy) in the folk music category for her recording of fiddle tunes from the county of Nordland.

With an ambivalent relationship to the art form and the old traditions that follow, Susanne has developed her sound over time and has received great acceptance within the international scene. In her interplay with renowned jazz musicians Nils-Olav Johansen and Erik Nylander, she explores the music through improvisational conversation. In her lyrics and melodies, Susanne Lundeng portrays the drama of life itself and its impact on both people and the landscape.
Her music has been described as profoundly melancholic, subdued, tender, and stormy.

Susanne Lundeng will release her 14th album "De salige" (The blessed") on August 8th on the record label Havella (HAVCD03)

"The Blessed" awakens dormant sounds.

- "It has been a great longing to hear and play with those I learned from when I was young. Then the idea of The Blessed came. But, how to get to play with them again?
Cut, cut, cut from old recordings and then put the thousands of clips together into new compositions, then thought, then done!"

"The Blessed" is a collaboration based on the use and processing of older archive recordings from fiddle players and women's voices in Salten and Lofoten and Susanne's duo with guitarist Nils-Olav Johansen and sound engineer Are Bredal Simonsen.

By cutting/sampling single notes, small phrases and sounds from the old tunes and songs, each musician gets to keep their voice and individuality, just like they sound on older recordings, but they play new music that Susanne has composed! So all the melodies are newly written, with the exception of the basis for the reindeer song and a verse that Susanne sings in "The Song of the Blessed".

The compositions deal with typical musical stylistic features in the Nordland tradition.
